Late Saturday night, June 7, 2008 and very early Sunday
morning Pebbles had eight puppies! Jennifer Craig of Harborview Goldens e‑mailed
those of us who had registered an interest in those puppies and informed us
that there were five girls and three boys, all healthy. On day 4, Jennifer had
caught her breath
and e‑mailed pictures.

Eight gorgeous, puffy fur balls. Whenever I showed anyone the pictures, everyone’s response was the same: OOOOhhhh! How cute and cuddly. Puppies really do bring out the best in us!
Because there was an uncharacteristically hot spell, even for Erie PA, the challenge was keeping Pebbles cool without chilling the puppies. Obviously Jennifer was keeping everything under control, because by one week of age the pups had doubled their birth weight – the growth potential for “all of God’s creatures” is impressive. At two weeks of age the puppies’ eyes were open, and they were up on all fours, creating a havoc when Pebbles would return to the whelping box. Sides had to be added to keep the pups from escaping!
The pups are 2 weeks old and at least one has eyes opening |
The pups are 3 weeks old |
At three weeks of age, the pups were acting more and more like little dogs every day. They were getting increasingly interested in each other and the world around them. They were starting to play a lot more with each other and they were occasionally exhibiting some very silly play bows at one another. At this age the pups change every day and their growth is dramatic!

At four weeks the puppies had to be moved to larger surroundings because they were escaping their whelping box! The pups were allowed to explore other rooms in Jenn Craig’s home and got to meet several of her full grown adult dogs. The pups were given their first meal apart from mother’s milk.
The pups are 5 weeks old |
At five weeks there was a “Meet the Puppies” which I’ll
discuss in more detail in the next post - We Meet the Puppies.
Awww! I wonder which one JayDee is?? :)
ReplyDeleteHi David, I came across your blog while I was researching Harborview Goldens and have really enjoyed reading about your experiences. I have a few questions about your experience and I was wondering if we could chat over email? My email address is matthew.mannix@gmail.com. Thanks in advance! - Matt
