Still Other Things to Buy

Bitter apple pump spray 8 oz. This has not worked for me, see Walking the Dawg for additional details

Lil pals ID tag by Coastal Pet Products. This was dirt cheap but unfortunately it wasn’t even worth the minimal amount I paid.

Stain and Odor Remover, 24 oz by Petastic. I assume that this product is good. I used it several times to cancel out “accidents” in the house. Since the number of in‑house accidents was relatively small, it lasted more than 3 years. When I needed more, I picked something off the shelf at Wal*Mart.

I remember when amazon.com first came on the scene and they had funky radio commercials. It was a bold new concept back then, but it has certainly caught on! I find that I access their site several times a week and it seems I am often waiting for the delivery of something that I ordered from them. At first almost all of these purchases were on an Amazon wishlist, but many did not include their free shipping because Amazon outsourced the purchase. Therefore, I either went direct or found the least expensive vendors.

At any rate I bought two Midwest Life-Stages 36” x 24” crates. My intention was one for the house and one for the back of the SUV. By the time JayDee came home, we decided that the back of the SUV crate would go in our bedroom for night-time sleeping and this necessitated the purchase of a third crate, but this time I bought a plastic “travel” crate for a medium sized dog. Whether JayDee initially didn’t like riding in the car, or she didn’t like the closed in feeling of this crate I do not know. Regardless, within a couple of months, this crate was too small so I purchased a third 36” x 24” 2-door crate by Midwest. In retrospect the purchase of the plastic travel crate turned out to be more expensive then I had originally thought!! The Midwest crates are a major bang for the buck.

You are probably familiar with petsmart.com due to T.V. advertising. Their pricing is quite good, maybe not the absolute lowest, but the minimum purchase required to get free shipping is quite a bit less than petmountain.com. They also allow a wishlist on their website and I found that to be quite helpful.

Quiet Time kennel bed by Midwest. I bought two of these because I had a crate in the kitchen and one in the bedroom and besides, that way I could get free shipping. Turned out that JayDee seemed to prefer the coolness of the bare plastic crate bottom and she had a penchant to chew up the bedding. Pam suggested we just leave the beds out on the floor, away from the crates and from time to time, JayDee would go to them and lie down, but then periodically she would chew and paw them. We therefore picked the beds up and stowed them away for a period of time and tried again when JayDee was a bit older. When she was 8 months old, she chewed a hole in one of the beds so out to the burn barrel it went! One down, one to go. When JayDee was 20 months old, while Pam and I were away, our daughter Allison put the remaining bed in the crate in the kitchen, and JayDee liked it! She seemed to gravitate into the crate more than previously. Nevertheless, I have come to the conclusion that dog beds are more appealing to humans who have dogs, than to the dogs themselves, but that my be just my experience.

Emergency rescue decals. These are supposed to be put on the home windows so that fire fighters can rescue your pets. Unfortunately, these particular decals were so ugly I could not bring myself to put them in the windows!
